DANCE CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Center for Ballroom and Dance believes in making Ballet the foundation of each student's training. We strongly suggest that each student study Ballet in addition to other dance disciplines they wish to study.
RISING STAR CLASSES (PRESCHOOL/KINDER LEVEL)
Play DanceCreative movement set to fun and funky music (pre hip-hop) for students ages 2 - 5.
Kinder Hip-HopBeginning hip-hop for student ages 5 - 6.
Story BalletChildren learn the art of ballet through the charm of stories and fairytales. Program designed for the student 2.5 - 4 years old.
ConfettiBoth ballet and tap disciplines are taught and alternated each week. Program designed for the student 3 - 5 years old.
Pre Ballet 1 & 2An introduction to ballet designed for kindergarten age students (4 - 5). Emphasis will be placed on learning the most basic ballet positions and connecting movements.
Pre Jazz/TapIntroductions to jazz and tap alternated within each class. Program designed for children ages 4-5.
BALLET CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Ballet began in the European courts in the 16th Century. It has an established terminology and sets of exercises incorporated into barre and center work. Body placement, posture, balance, flexibility and coordination are stressed. Classical music is used for training.
Ballet 1-P2
Technique classes that progress from beginner through advanced level dancers. These classes prepare a dancer for excellence in classical ballet.
Pre Pointe
This class is designed to prepare the dancer's foot and body for the demands of Pointe work.
Pointe 1 - 3
Pointe work is a crossroads in the intermediate/advanced ballet student's training. It is a part of classical ballet technique that is made possible by the use of Pointe shoes.
Pas de deux
Partnering in ballet. For duets.
Men's Class
Class focuses specifically on accelerated center work.
Open Ballet
A multi-level technique class for students ages 13 to adult.
Ballet Preteen
A beginners technique class for students ages 9-12.
Adult Ballet
A multi-level technique class designated for adults.
CONTEMPORARY CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Jazz 1-5This is a dance technique that borrows from ballet and develops stylistically. It typically uses upbeat, current music. Ages 6 and above.
Jazz PreteenAn introductory class for students ages 9-12 focusing on the basic techniques.
Jazz FunkHigh energy intermediate jazz class. Excellent preparation for junior high and high school dance teams. Ages 11 and above.
Lyrical 1-4A form of dance that uses technique and emotions to convey a story through movement and song. Ages 8 and above.
Open Lyrical/JazzA multi-level technique class for students ages 13 to adult.
Modern 1-4An abstract form of dance utilizing ballet as the foundation. For ballet levels 5 and above.
TAP CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Tap 1-4This form of dance uses rhythmic footwork done with special shoes designed to amplify sound. Emphasis is on rhythm, style and clarity of sounds produced. Ages 6 and above.
HIP HOP/CREW CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Hip Hop 1-5Hip-hop dance refers to social or choreographed "street" dance styles evolved out of hip-hop culture set to hip-hop music. Ages 6 and above.
FunkA highly energetic fusion of basic Hip Hop and Jazz for students ages 6-8.
Open Hip HopA multi-level technique class for students ages 13 to adult.
Dance CrewHighly dynamic hip-hop based performance group utilizing all contemporary styles of dance. For dancers 11 and above with 2 years hip hop experience.
Boys CrewDynamic boy's performance dance group utilizing hip-hop and break dance movements. Ages 11 and above.
SPECIALTY CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Latin BasicsA beginners class to International Latin ballroom dances including Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive, Cha-Cha and Samba. Ages 7 and up.
Beginning LatinAn intro class to International Latin ballroom dances including Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive, Cha-Cha and Samba. Ages 5-6.
Dance TeamA class designed for students interested in or currently on a dance team. General technique as well as choreography incuding elements of kick, poms, hip hop, etc. will be taught. Ages 10 and up.
Poms: Jumps, Leaps and TurnsFor students interested in or currently on high school poms squad. Prepares student for successful audition. General technique as well as jumps, leaps and turns will be taught. Appropriate for 8th grade through high school. Ages 11+
Rhythmic DanceA form of gymnastics in which dance movements are combined with the manipulation of a hand apparatus such as a rope, hoop, or ribbon.
